Are you fond of history?

Visit the Castle of Kalavrita located at an altitude of 1100m. which offers breathtaking views of the town.

Visit the Municipal Museum of the Holocaust of Kalavrita and then take a stroll through the Old Mansion Paleologina. Do not forget, on your way to the Kalavrita Ski Centre, to make a stop at the Place of the Massacre on the hill of Kapi (the memorial site of the Holocaust), to see one of the notable monuments of the city that was built in honor of the Kalavrita men who were executed by the Germans on December 13, 1943.

Are you fond of Archaeology?

Visit the archaeological site of Ano Lousi, one of the famous Arcadian cities located 15km from the town of Kalavrita in the village of Lousi.

Also visit, the archaeological site of Ancient Kleitora located in the municipality of Lefkasio in Ano Kleitoria which is one of the most important cities of ancient Azania. According to tradition, the city got its name from Kleitora, son of Azania. A unique experience for those who love archeology is a visit to the Pausanias Vine estimated around 3000 years old. Pausanias Vine is mentioned by the historian Pausanias, and is named after him, it is located at Pangrateika Kalyvia (huts).

Other remarkable destinations in Kalavrita are the two historic monasteries, the Monastery of Agia Lavra and the Monastery of Mega Spilaion as well as the Church of Panagia Plataniotissa and the Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Makellaria.


Are you fond of nature?

A unique experience for nature lovers is a visit to the Cave of Kastrion Lakes where you can find a rare geological phenomenon. The descent to the gorge Vouraikos River which stems from Mount Helmos and is poured near Diakopto, is a truly  lifetime experience. If winter trek is too daring for you, prefer to take a ride the Odontotos Railway instead. There are multiple references in ancient Greek mythology about the river Ladon, the main tributary of the river Alpheus, which is ideal for canoe-kayak and rafting. For nature lovers, a remarkable experience is a visit to the Waters of Styx during summertime.

Of course, during your visit to Kalavrita Ski Centre, do not forget to visit "Aristarchus", the modern telescope in Helmos which can observe at a distance of 7 billion light years away from Earth! The telescope is located at an altitude of 2.340m. The telescope can observe to about the middle of the universe. This region is one of the darkest in Europe which helps tremendously the observation of the stars.  At such high altitude, the telescope is not affected by the lights of the cities located in the lowlands.
